Family time is an important part of summer vacation, and what better way to celebrate the end of another school year than traveling? These fun vacation ideas embrace all that makes your family unique — and are sure to offer some great memories!
Why Finding a Safe, Inclusive Destination Matters
The International LGBTQ+ Travel Association (IGLTA) reports that travelers’ sexualities and gender identities play a large role in where and how they choose to travel. Members of the LGBTQ+ community may choose one destination over another because one may have anti-LGBTQ legislation or restrictions in place, while other destinations might be chosen because they’re historically more welcoming and inclusive.
This also connects with another important aspect of what members of the LGBTQ+ community need while traveling. Safe, inclusive accommodations are a necessity for everyone.
That’s why ALG Vacations has curated a list of three fun summer vacation ideas that take travelers from warm Caribbean waters to tropical Hawaiian shores and the bayou of New Orleans. Each destination or resort experience offers a safe, inclusive vacation to ensure everyone in the family will have a great time.
Nickelodeon Hotels & Resorts
A stay at Nickelodeon Hotels & Resorts in the Riviera Maya or Punta Cana can offer some incredible memories. It's a theme park experience wrapped up inside a beautiful beachfront resort! The resorts feature all-inclusive fun, complete with daily programming with some of the kids’ favorite cartoon characters. This year, the resorts are featuring a Summer of SpongeBob program with some incredible special activities inspired by the show.
The Summer of SpongeBob is available now through September 5, 2023, and includes up to 40 percent off of stays and a $350 resort credit, which is sure to put a smile on parents’ faces.
OUTRIGGER Waikiki Beachcomber Hotel
Want to stay in a tropical paradise without your passport? Stay at the family-friendly OUTRIGGER Waikiki Beachcomber Hotel, located on the famous Waikiki Beach in Hawaii, where kids 17 and under stay free when sharing a room (up to four people a room).
Embrace Hawaii at the resort, which features several fun things for families, from biweekly sunrise yoga, Hawaiian-grown coffee at the Hawaiian Aroma Caffe, live music and more. Families will also be able to get some incredible ideas and deals at the Beachcomber Activities Lounge.
Additionally, Honolulu’s Pride parade and festival are not to be missed! This year, the event is happening on October 21 with a theme of “Rooted in Pride: Homecoming.”
New Orleans
Families who might not want to enjoy a resort vacation this summer can head over to historic New Orleans, a haven for the LGBTQ+ community. Steeped in history and Southern hospitality, families can enjoy trying out adventurous new foods, listening to incredible jazz music, patronizing LGBTQ-owned businesses and more.
Families can take walking tours or carriage rides of the French Quarter, visit the city’s historic Audubon Park, the famed New Orleans Museum of ARt and much more: each attraction offers specific experiences for children and teens to enjoy.
