The Philippines conjures images of towering skyscrapers, crystalline waters, wonderful people, and rich cultural hot spots. It’s also the 11th most visited place in southeast Asia, making the archipelago a premier international travel destination spot.
But with so much to do and so much to see, putting together an itinerary can be hard.
That’s why we’re here to present our pick for the best things to do in the Philippines. Whether you are traveling alone or with your family, we’re sure you’ll love all the items on this list.
White Beach
One of the highest-rated and most loved spots in the Philippines is White Beach. Situated on the island of Boracay, White Beach has become a world-renowned spot for its bright white sandy beaches. This picturesque vacation spot is a must for first-time visitors and a perfect way to escape the heat.
“The Walled City”, Intramuros
A personal favorite of ours has to be Intramuros, “the walled city” of Manilla. It’s the oldest district in Manilla, with a long and rich history. To us, these historical walking tours are the perfect way to fully immerse yourself in the Philippines.
Banaue Rice Terraces
The Banaue Rice Terraces were a breathtaking sight to behold. The rice terraces, which are over 2000 years old, were carved into the mountainside with nothing more than the locals’ hands!
Locals today still use this lush paradise to plant and grow their crops.
The Hanging Coffins
Maybe leave your children at home for this one. The Hanging Coffins in Sagada are a unique sight to behold. Hidden away in the Cordillera Mountains, the hanging coffins paint a fascinating history of the local people and burial traditions for important tribesmen.
When you go, make sure to wear sturdy shoes. The trek can be a bit tough, but it’s worth it!
Underground River
For TravelPulse, nothing got our adrenalin pumping more than the underground river at Puerto Princesa.
The national park preserves an ancient underground cave system beneath the limestone mountain. The 24-kilometer-long river is one of our top must-see spots for visitors.
Taal Volcano
If you want to get your adrenaline pumping and go on a true adventure, visiting the Taal Volcano of Luzon is your best bet. Located on a small island, the volcano is surrounded by water.
The journey is part of the adventure, with stunning views and hiking trails that take you all along the crater until you finally reach the summit. Here, you’ll be greeted with a view, unlike anything you’ve ever seen.
Fort Santiago
Seeing a real-life fort is an experience we’ll never forget! Fort Santiago, built in the 16th century, was meant to keep out invaders. It was the first of the barricades built by the walled city.
Now, it’s a massively popular tourist attraction. You can walk around the fort, explore the architecture, and learn about the fort's role in many local and international conflicts. It’s a great look into the past.
Manila Ocean Park
If you’re in the city, you have to visit Manila ocean park. We found it to be the perfect family activity and a local treasure you won’t forget. The park, which is an impressive 8000 square meters, features a ton of aquatic exhibits like a massive underwater tunnel and a penguin exhibit.
Big Lagoon
If you’ve looked up the Philippines, you’ve likely seen the Big Lagoons. It’s an iconic travel spot and one we found to live up to its hype. The lagoon is aptly named as it’s a big lagoon surrounded by towering cliffs, crystalline waters, and perfect weather.
If you want to take the best vacation photos and bask in the sun, this is the place to do it!
