It’s centrally located to almost anybody in the United States.
It has one of the best beaches in the world.
It accommodates anybody looking to save a dime to those looking to spend top dollar.
So it's no wonder why the Mexican resort town of Cancun is the top destination for U.S. travelers this summer. That’s according to new data collected by online travel agency Expedia.
“This summer, travelers are clearly ready to dust off their passports and embrace jet lag as they set off overseas,” said Melanie Fish, a spokesperson for Expedia Group.
Cancun is an even more popular destination than cities in Europe and other places in the Caribbean. Placing in the top five most popular destinations besides London, Paris and Rome, was another beat side resort in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. The point is, these are all destinations that are relatively close to the United States and represent something of an international getaway.
The data is for June, July and August of this year.
