Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar will travel to Dhaka this Thursday (28 April 2022) to deliver an invitation on behalf of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to his Bangladeshi counterpart Sheikh Hasina for an official visit to India.

An announcement was made today by Indian Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla in response to a question from reporters during a reception at the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi, our New Delhi correspondent reports.

“The Foreign Minister will travel to Dhaka on Thursday for a one-day visit. He will bring our Prime Minister’s invitation to the Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina, for an official visit to India,” Shringla said.

Hasina’s last official visit to India was in October 2019.

Diplomatic sources said Hasina’s next visit to India could be in June.

Modi had visited Bangladesh in March 2021 and again in March this year when he invited Hasina to visit India in 2022 in commemoration of the Golden Jubilee of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Modi had paid a state visit to Dhaka from March 26 to 27, 2021 to join the celebrations of the Golden Jubilee of Bangladesh’s independence, the centenary of the birth of Nation Father Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the 50 years of establishment of diplomatic relations between India and Bangladesh.
