Limerick man Niall O’Brien’s memory to be honored at event

THE DEATH Niall O’Brien is to be honored at a special event organized to help offset the costs involved in repatriating his body from the island of Ios last month to his heartbroken family.

The Castle Oaks House hotel in Castleconnell will host the fundraiser on Saturday afternoon, November 13th.

Niall, 21, of Monaleen Park, Castletroy, tragically died while on vacation in Greece in August. The Niall O’Brien Repatriation Fund was established to help offset the costs of returning from Ios Island to his heartbroken family.

To date, more than € 42,000 has been paid. Organizers hope the funds “will help offset the enormous costs incurred by the O’Brien family.” Any excess funds raised will be allocated to selected local charities in Limerick and Clare.

Theresa O’Keeffe, Deputy Managing Director of Castle Oaks, said they were proud to host an event to benefit this very worthy cause.

“A friend of his works with us at the hotel. Our wedding coordinator, Martina Cusack, came up with the idea. She has a daughter about the same age as Niall. They were discussing the Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust and the great job they do to help families in tragic situations like this. This conversation at home led to this event, ”Theresa said.

Following a prosecco reception, there will be afternoon tea, cash prizes, auction, speeches and music. Niall will be at the forefront of all minds. The auction features signed Munster, Limerick and Clare swimsuits as a nod to Niall’s Broadford roots.

Theresa said everyone is welcome – Niall’s family, friends, friends of friends, GAA clubs or those touched by this sad story.

Tickets, € 30, with proceeds going to the Repatriation Fund are available by calling the Castle Oaks House Hotel on 061 377666. You can donate online by Googling Niall O’Brien Repatriation Fund.
