When you are headed to a far-off land, get ready for the unfamiliar. New cultures, customs, languages and religions are going to influence how you travel in far-flung destinations - and even some that are in your own backyard.
Shannon Ullman offers some ways in which travelers can prepare themselves when visiting a new destination and she shares them on the Huffington Post.
Ullman's first tip: Arm yourself with language.
"Spend a little time learning the basics like Hello, Please, Thank You and a few words to describe food, directions and numbers," she says. "With some basics under your belt, go even further and download language translation apps or get yourself a dictionary that has both English and the language of the locals."
Another insight: familiarize yourself with the local religion.
"Religion plays a huge role in countries all over the world and it's important to read up on the kind of practices and beliefs held in the places that you visit," she says.

Learning about social norms is another good idea.
"Take a look at the way citizens usually behave and interact with each other so that you can be careful not to offend others and to let things go when you experience something that is typically offensive in your home country," writes Ullman.
These are just a few tips to get yourself ready for your next adventure. There are even more here.
