Important Things To Know
Currency
Mazatlán, as a Mexican city, uses the Mexican Peso as currency. The symbol for the peso is Mex$ and $.
The currency is available in banknotes and coins: $20, $50, $100, $200, $500, and $1000 banknotes; 10c, 20c, 50c, $1, $2, $5, $10, and $20 coins.
We recommend bringing a mix of pesos and dollars. Most of the stores and attractions in tourist regions accept USD as payment alongside the peso.
National Languages
Most Mazatlán locals speak Spanish and other native languages.
While there, we noticed that almost all the tourist areas had English-speaking individuals so communicating wasn’t an issue. You’re more than welcome to download a translation app but you’ll likely only need it on the outskirts of the city.
Climate And Weather
Mazatlán has a hot and cloudy wet season. This falls during the summer months, from June to August. In summer, late afternoon showers are common.
The rest of the year sees clearer skies and less rain. The weather is also very pleasant during this time. Even in the winter months (December, January, and February), the cold is only ever a problem late at night. The days are pleasant and bright.
