The Mexican state of Guanajuato is home to ample cultural, historical and gastronomic attractions, but it’s also in the top five destinations in Mexico for business tourism.

Cities like Leon, Silao, Irapuato, Celaya, San Miguel de Allende and Guanajuato City offer eleven different meetings and event venues, such as the Poliforum Leon, which offers over 42,000 square feet of event and entertainment space. The Inforum Irapuato Exhibition Center offers a more intimate 10,000 square feet of both indoor and outdoor event spaces.

Getting to Guanajuato

Business travelers can connect to Guanajuato through the Bajio International Airport (BJX) in Silao. It offers connectivity to other major destinations throughout Mexico, such as Mexico City, Jalisco or Aguascalientes, as well as with several destinations across the United States, including San Diego, Los Angeles, Chicago, Houston and more.

Why Guanajuato is an Ideal MICE Destination

So what kinds of experiences can a MICE trip to Guanajuato offer?

The answers are nearly limitless! Guanajuato offers a rich selection of Magic Towns to visit, such as Dolores Hidalgo, known as the birthplace of Mexican independence from Spain. Travelers can also visit UNESCO World Heritage cities, such as Guanajuato City, known for its rich heritage and charming architecture. Ancient history lovers will also enjoy stepping back in time with a visit to one or more of the state’s pre-Hispanic archaeological sites.

Adventure activities include biking and horseback riding to hiking or rappelling. Mineral de Pozos, a historic ghost town once known for its silver mines, is a perfect destination that combines adventure activities with a bit of Mexican history. There are also thirty-two protected natural areas where travelers can immerse themselves in central Mexico’s natural environment.

After a long day of conferences or meetings, travelers can make their way to Comonfort to peruse the local artisanal crafts, such as molcajetes, carved basalt mortar bowls, or they can follow Guanajuato’s wine route and sip local wines at a variety of wineries.

The Bottom Line

Guanajuato is a wonderful destination for MICE trips and events due to its business and meeting venues and its incredible cultural, historical and natural attractions.
