The Pro Shop and Fitness Centre areas
of the Four Seasons Nevis luxury
resort were destroyed in a fire Tuesday evening, according to multiple sources.
“The safety and well-being of our
employees and guests is our top priority and we are relieved to share that
everyone is safe and unharmed,” said resort officials in a statement.
They continued, “As we assess the
extent of the damages and develop a plan for the restoration of the facilities,
the resort remains open and welcoming guests.”
“We have all been shocked tonight by
the massive fire,” said Mark Brantley, Nevis’ premier, who toured the facility
Wednesday in the fire’s aftermath.
“Preliminary reports suggest that
the gym and pro shop areas at the resort have been destroyed, but there is no
damage to the main hotel or any of the guest rooms or villas,” Brantley said.
The property is the largest hotel on
the tiny Caribbean island, part of the two-island Federation of St.
Kitts and Nevis. Brantley described the blaze as “a tragedy affecting all of
Nevis.”
“I extend our heartfelt sympathies
to the owners, management and staff at the resort,” Brantley said, “and pledge
the government’s fullest support and partnership in returning our landmark
hotel to its former glory as quickly as possible.”
“We want to extend our gratitude to
our dedicated staff,” said hotel officials in a statement Brantley posted
online, “As well as the local fire department and emergency services teams for
their rapid response and efficient handling of the situation.”
