Celestyal Cruises’ newest ship, the 1,260-passenger
Celestyal Journey, set sail on its maiden voyage Sept. 2 after a $21 million renovation.
The ship is operating the seven-night “Idyllic
Aegean” itinerary, from Piraeus, Athens, visiting Thessaloniki, Kusadasi,
Heraklion (Crete), Santorini, Mykonos, and Milos. The itinerary was previously
operated by Celestyal Crystal, which is being sold. The company now
operates two ships, Celestyal Journey and Celestyal Olympia.
“Celestyal Journey signals a new and exciting
chapter in our offering as we continue to invest into our fleet, aligning the
company’s vision to offer a new premium stay-in-style and experience-rich
cruise offering to the Greek islands and Eastern Mediterranean,” said Lee
Haslett, Celestyal’s chief commercial officer. “Initial reactions have been
fantastic, and we are committed to continue to delight our guests with our
renowned hospitality, local expertise, and quality facilities.”
To celebrate its inaugural voyage and to
showcase the expanded premium balcony capacity, Celestyal is extending a
promotion of a complimentary suite upgrade on all Journey bookings made by Oct.
31, for travel for the rest of the year. This includes the seven-night “Three
Continents” itinerary that starts on the new ship from Oct. 21, and the special
11-, 18- and 19-night festive sailings departing in December.
Celestyal Journey was built at the
Fincantieri shipyard in Italy and first entered service in 1994 as Holland
America Line’s Ryndam. After two decades of service, it was transferred to
P&O Cruises Australia in 2015, becoming the Pacific Aria. Five years later,
in 2020, the vessel was sold to Seajets, remaining laid-up in Greece before
being resold to Celestyal in February.
