Carnival Cruise Line announced the introduction of new vegan
menus on two ships and plans to add the option fleetwide in a phased approach
through the end of the year.
The vegan menus will first be added to Carnival Freedom
based out of Port Canaveral, Florida, and Carnival Horizon at PortMiami.
Available in each vessel’s dining rooms during every meal, travelers can choose
from a selection of appetizers, entrees and desserts that are entirely vegan.
Carnival chefs crafted recipes prepared without the use of
animal products, with proteins provided coming from meat substitutes. For
appetizers, the cruise line will offer Hawaiian Salmon Poke, Stuffed Mushrooms
and Spaghetti Carbonara.
The entrees include Grilled Tofu Steak, Baked Vegetable Au
Gratin and Eggplant Cutlet a la Parmigiana, while desserts include Key Lime
Velvet Cake, Dutch Double Chocolate Pave and Cappuccino Pot de Creme.
“Plant-based food options are a rising preference on our
ships just as they are on land, and so the new dishes we’re introducing are a
direct response to that shift,” Carnival senior vice president Richard Morse
said.
“Our skilled chefs work to accommodate all dietary needs and
preferences but building on our vegan offerings and emphasizing them with
specific menus will help to make ordering easier in the dining room and
preparation more efficient in the galley,” Morse continued.
The new vegan-specific offerings were piloted on Carnival
Magic, with Carnival Dream being the next to implement the menus. By the end of
the month, the selections will be available on Carnival Valor, Carnival
Radiance, Carnival Miracle, Carnival Panorama and Mardi Gras.
Next, they will become available on Carnival Celebration,
Carnival Sunrise, Carnival Glory, Carnival Conquest, Carnival Vista, Carnival
Breeze, Carnival Sunshine and Carnival Elation by the end of October. Carnival
Paradise and Carnival Spirit will introduce the menus by the end of November
and Carnival Legend, Carnival Venezia and the new Carnival Jubilee follow
before the end of December.
