The travel experts at Bounce analyzed the world’s landmarks on a variety of factors including annual visitor numbers, entry prices, TripAdvisor ratings, and Instagram posts, to reveal the world’s most loved landmarks.
These are 10 of the most beloved landmarks in the world:
10. London Eye
A relative newcomer when it comes to the historical aspect of the landmarks on this list, the Eye gives you a literal bird’s eye view of the city. Most Londoners were indifferent about the structure when it was first being constructed, but now have come to love the landmark.
9. Machu Picchu
The ruins are incredible. Technically ‘discovered’ by Hiram Bingham in 1911, subsequent research showed that it may have been occupied in the 1400s.
8. Statue of Liberty
A gift from France, the statue is revered. For more than 140 years, the statue has served as a de facto welcome to this country for immigrants from around the world. Now the everlasting question is, is it in New York or New Jersey?
7. Eiffel Tower
They don’t call Paris the city of blinding lights for nothing.
6. Burj Khalifa
The Burj Khalifa in downtown Dubai is literally the tallest building in the world. At least, for a little while longer. Saudi Arabia is said to be building a structure that will eclipse the Burj Khalifa.
5. Golden Gate Bridge
Arguably, the most beautiful suspension bridge in the world. It connects you from San Francisco to Sausalito and is the gateway to wine country in Northern California.
4. Big Ben
A staple of London, this might be the most iconic timepiece in the world.
3. Grand Canyon
To say that the Grand Canyon is awe inspiring would be an understatement. You just can’t comprehend how big and magnificent it is until you see it up close. A word to the wise, however. Step away from the edge.
2. Taj Mahal
Located in India, the Taj Mahal was built by a man for his wife. It has since become one of the most picturesque places in the world. And of course, who can forget the picture of Princess Diana sitting forlornly in front of the structure?
1. Niagara Falls
This one seems almost old school. Like, didn’t your parents go here for their honeymoon? But the falls are still as incredible and venerable as ever. And the Maid of the Mist boat ride is still as magnificent as can be.
